Wood Effect Tiles — Timber Plank Floors in Porcelain

A wood-effect plank gives you a timber floor in a bathroom, on a veranda or over underfloor heating — all the places a real board should not go. The good ones feel like timber under the hand, because the surface texture follows the printed grain.

What wood effect does that timber cannot

  • Bathrooms and wet rooms — Water has no effect at all. A real board in a bathroom is a maintenance problem from day one.
  • Verandas and covered terraces — No weathering, no annual oiling, no rot at the ends of boards.
  • Underfloor heating — Porcelain conducts heat well and does not shrink, cup or gap as timber does through a heating season.
  • Kitchens — Spills, grease and dropped pans do nothing to it.
  • Commercial floors — The timber look at a PEI rating that real board could never reach.
  • Herringbone and chevron — Laid in pattern without the movement problems that plague timber parquet.

વારંવાર પૂછાતા પ્રશ્નો

Do wood effect tiles look like real wood?

At a glance, yes — particularly those with surface texture registered to the printed grain, so the tile feels like timber under the hand. Close up a joint every 1200 mm gives it away, but what you gain is a floor unaffected by water that never needs refinishing.

Can wood effect tiles be used in a bathroom?

Yes, and it is one of their strongest cases. Porcelain is unaffected by water, so you get a timber-looking bathroom floor without any of the problems a real board would have.

What size are wood effect tiles?

Most commonly 200x1200 mm planks, with 150x900 mm and 200x1000 mm also produced. The long narrow proportion is what makes the plank read as a board rather than a tile.

Can wood effect tiles go over underfloor heating?

Yes, and they perform better than timber. Porcelain conducts heat efficiently and is dimensionally stable, so it does not cup, shrink or open gaps through a heating season the way real boards do.
